Τhessaloniki is situated by the sea and it’s considered to be one of the most important commercial and cultural cities in Greece, renowned for its festivals, events and vibrant cultural life in general. It has always been a metropolis since its foundation in 315BC. Thessaloniki is Creece real cultural capital with the astonishing number of 15 UNESCO World Heritage sites and 30 museums for a city of one million people.
It is a city with a continuous 3,000 year old history; preserving relics of its Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman past and of its formerly dominant Jewish population. A long time melting pot of cultures, a feature reflected in the spicy flavors with eastern influences and a marvellous cosmopolitan atmosphere, along with the its impressive architectural fabric.
The White Tower, its landmark, is the only surviving tower on the seafront.
Due to its rich and diverse history, many museums located in the center of Thessaloniki offer the chance to the visitors to admire exhibits from different eras. The central part of the city is divided into two parts; the central commercial and historical city center, where the most tourist sites, entertainment and educational facilities are located; and Ano Poli (also called Old Town and literally the Upper Town), declared as UNESCO heritage site. It’s a city with a great nightlife even in winter; it is also widely considered the Greek city of love due to its many romantic streets and alleys.

Thessaloniki is served by Macedonia International Airport for international and domestic flights. The airport which lies 15 km southeast of the city center, is connected directly with national and international destinations.
